Dr. Rainer Hainberger received his Dipl.-Ing. degree in physics at TU Wien (1995) and his PhD in electronic engineering at the University of Tokyo (2000). From 2000 to 2004, he was affiliated
with Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. working on optical fiber transmission systems. In 2004, he joined the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH, where he established a research team working on integrated optical waveguide based biosensors. Since 2012 he has been leading the Diagnostics Biosensors group of the Competence Unit Molecular Diagnostics in the Center for Health and Bioresources. The group has a strong focus on printed electrochemical biosensors for point of care testing. Dr. Hainberger is currently coordinating the H2020 project IMPETUS “Pilot line for paper based electrochemical test strips dedicated to quantitative biosensing in liquids.
